Crimson Moon interview: “the draw is the community”

Author: Renex | Filed under: Uncategorized

One day, the Humans that inhabited the nearby town of Crystallion were visited by a Dark Wanderer. His name was Krelon. A wicked, decrepit scientist who practiced the Dark Arts and intermingled those practices with his experiments. It was because of these experiments that he had been cast out of every town he visited. For Krelon believed that by tapping into the immense Plasma Energies found in the blood of the living, he could find a way to cheat death. So he went from town to town, hoping one day to find the right method for achieving his goal.

But finally, after much chastising by the townsfolk, he found his perfect lab rat. A Nobleman known as Delvagan who was cruel and wanted nothing more than absolute power. With the promise of everlasting life, he invited Krelon to his castle to begin the process.

Delvagan was introduced to me as the creator of Crimson Moon. Crimson Moon is a free web based fantasy Persistent Browser-Based RPG Game (PBBG) featuring Vampires, Werewolves, and Hybrids.

Crimson Moon has won several times the contest of top games on BBGUniverse.com and this week features an interview with the creator of this wonderful game.

Q: Please tell us a few things about yourself.

A: Been working on CM for 5 years. Have a degree in Computer Information Systems and hold a full time job in networking.

Q: Could you describe Crimson Moon and point out 3 special things about it?

A: Crimson Moon is a Browser Based Game also called a PBBG that centers around the world of vampires and werewolves as well as a hybrid of the species. In Crimson Moon a war has broken out that involves all 3 and players can choose to do battle in pvp combat, join clans, make friends, join tournaments, marry and much more. Crimson Moon has 3 unique servers. The 1st server does not require you to level to increase stats. So you have 2 types of players. Those that level sit and those that choose to level. Server 2 requires leveling and increasing stats is only done through leveling. Server 2 also incorporates the areas of the game into a grid based mapping system. The Battle Server is a tournmaent style sever that goes in phases allowing a fresh start at the end of each phase. The focus is purely PvP fight on this sever. Server 1 is the oldest and original version of the game.

Q: What was the most interesting part in the development process and why?

A: Getting to create a world that others could enjoy and have fun with. I also at the time was learning the language CM was created with so it was excited learning a new programming language at the same time.

Q: Do you have a team or you work solely?

A: As far as programming goes I do it all. I have no team. This sometimes causes issues in that I’m not able to release updates as fast as I’d like but I’ve yet to find the need to bring others on board for programming. The reason I don’t have to yet is that I have a wonderful group of staff and players that take time out of their day to assist me with many of the game issues so that I can focus on coding the game when I have time.

Q: Could you describe a comic happening you had in the game?

A: I remember one year for April Fool’s I thought it’d be funny to post a message the game was being shut down…..that didn’t go so well:(

Q: What relation do you have with your players? What features do you have for community?

A: As the sole owner of the game it’s sometimes hard to have that commrodry with my players but I try my best. As with anything large I read all mail but don’t always have time to reply to them all. I do listen to my players in things related to the game as they are the one’s playing it. As far as communtiy goes I’ve implemented many things such as forums, chats. Even new social networking tools such as blogs, profiles, and profile comments similar to what you might see on a social networking site.

Q: How do you use to advertise the game?

A: I use many of the vote ranking sites but also have a budget set aside for advertising on various ad networks.

Q: What plans do you have for the future of the game?

A: Basically I’ll keep adding content and new upcoming features as time allows. The BBG gaming world is changing every day as more and more sites are brough online. As well you see the big players starting to release game since they’ve noticed the desire for these games. Only time will tell what will happen with CM and other games like it.

Q: Do you run any other projects?

A: I do work on several other sites for various things. I also run a game topsite called Crimson Games found at http://crimsongames200.com. As well I recently purchased another online game and am in the process of recoding it and hope to release it soon. I’ll post more on this on Crimson Moon and my company site http://crimsonproductionsllc.com

Q: What do you consider to be the most interesting part in a BBG?

A: I think the draw is the community and the fun of the game. Sometimes games are so caught up in how they look you miss out on the aspect that got us all involved in the first place.

Q: BBGUniverse plans to run a social network for both players and creators where game creators can create blogs, pages, groups for the players of the game and players can create groups for alliances. Would you be interested in joining Crimson Moon on such a project?

A: I’m always looking to increase the viewing that Crimson Moon has on the net. So, yes I would look at it.

Q: Do you have any message for your players and for possible future players?

A: Thanks for sticking with us for all these years. We look forward to being around for many more years and will continue to improve upon the game as need!

Q: Any message for game creators?

A: Have fun…if you not having fun it’s not worth it.

Q: Would you like to add anything else?

A: Just a thanks to BBG UNIVERSE for providing this interview and I look forward to a growing partnership between our sites. Crimson Moon can be found at http://cmrpg.net
